THE ELDERS AND FUTURE LEADERS CONNECT

Mary Robinson and Hina Jilani discuss our shared challenges – and the role of intergenerational action and dialogue to overcome them – together with the British Council’s ‘Future Leaders Connect’ participants. They encourage young people to step out into the world as empathetic leaders with a focus on justice, equality and upholding the rights of all.

Elders climate gathering

Mary Robinson, Ban Ki-moon and Zeid Raad Al Hussein are joined by young climate activists and experts to discuss the action needed from world leaders to fulfil decisions made at COP26. Delivered in partnership with Project Syndicate, participants explore why short-term, unilateral political thinking needs to change if we are to avert climate disaster.

About the State of Hope Gatherings

In July 2021, The Elders embarked on a series of State of Hope Gatherings exploring some of the biggest challenges facing the world today, from injustice and inequality, to peace-building and the climate crisis. Bringing different perspectives together on these issues, and reaching out to a range of different audiences has been a key part of The Elders’ State of Hope. We have had contributions for former heads of state and future world leaders, astronauts and grassroots activists.

The State of Hope Gatherings allow us to continue these conversations. To ensure a diverse range of people have the opportunity to share their views on how to approach these global challenges, we are working with a variety of partners, including the British Council, Project Syndicate and the Templeton World Charity Foundation to deliver a range of unique events.
